I contains a memorandum (written physically on the roll) by Edward Martin, mayor of Godmanchester, dated 10 July 1838, explaining the purpose of his annotations on this and many other court rolls (namely to seek evidence concerning the rights of freemen in preparation for a case at the Assizes at Huntingdon to be held on 26 July).
