TitleTwo drafts of a letter of reply to W. Burgliegh defending their actions re the course of the river Ouse
DescriptionReply from Thomas Maille and William Smithe and the inhabitants of Godmanchester defending their actions by saying that the Commissioners of Sewers order of 29 Eliz I [1587] was never set down in writing or engrossed, and that Brampton originally had only 2 mills, but these had now been increased to 4 with the result that the Brampton men were taking more than their allowance of water, and should restore the old water courses. The inhabitants of Godmanchester request that Richard Chessum should be examined by the Exchequer Chamber or that they be allowed to pursue a bill of complaint before Burgleigh [in the exchequer] or in the Court of the Duchy of Lancaster.
