TitleLetter from William Lowe to his brother John
DescriptionLetter from William Lowe of the R.F.I Militia, written from Londonderry to his brother John Lowe in Stamford, describing his life in Ireland. Among other things he writes of the races, the Irish Ladies "those whom I have been with are very affable and pleasing, there are very few good figures but pretty faces", of his lack of money, and of there being riots in Ireland but it is very quiet around Londonderry, but those in the village "don't like to have the whisky taken from them. They sometimes get guns and fix themselves upon the mountains when our parties go to destroy their stills which they make whisky in. We have had several men wounded, but none killed." The letter is annotated "From My Brother Wm to John Aug. 1813"
