Description | It includes letters to and from the Countess of Sandwich. (The Huntingdonshire branch of the W.V.S. was set up in February, 1939 and Lady Sandwich was its first President). There are also reports on furnishing requisitioned houses in the county for evacuees (Jan 1941), East Lodge, Leighton, an evacuation hostel for Jewish mothers and children (Jan 1941), clothing the homeless, and the appointment of a child guidance officer for evacuated children: newspaper cuttings about the war effort of the Huntingdonshire W.V.S. and W.I.: lists of W.V.S. chairmen in the county and of local organisers (Nov 1940): pamphlets and lectures on gas, anti-gas precautions, fire fighting and the protection of homes against air raid: a programme for the visit to the county of Lady Reading, national chairman of the W.V.S. (2nd Oct. 1939). |
