Title | Private Letter; Sir William Jolliffe, Home Office, to 7th Earl of Sandwich. |
Description | Has not been able to see Beresford, but has sent on Lord Sandwich's note to him. Now sends Beresford's reply. Enclosed: Letter 7th October, 1852 W. Beresford, War Office, to Sir William Jolliffe. Does not quite understand Lord Sandwich's request concerning lodging money for the Permanent Serjeants of the Militia: it looks as though he asks for lodging money for them, when not attending training. Since there are no billets for these men at Head Quarters during the period that no training goes on, the married men must have their own homes and they ought not to move from these at the training period. If they have to move for the training, they will receive billets. A certain number of men per Regiment are allowed 2d a day for lodging money during training and the Colonel selects the recipients from the married men. |
