TitleLetter; T. Wright Vaughan, Knightsbridge, to 7th Earl of Sandwich.
DescriptionFears that the Earl will agree with him, when he has read the accompanying letter, that there can be no hope of Lieutenant Browne being an efficient officer, if he feels he must join the Regiment. Cannot promise Browne that the Militia will only be called out for 28 days. Enclosed: Letter Thomas C. Browne, Withington, to [Colonel Vaughan] Is sorry about the unfavourable result of the application to the Secretary at War. Asks now whether the Regiment is likely to be called out and whether it is likely to be continued out longer that 28 days for training and exercise. If it only out for 28 days, it would be better for him to join the Regiment, as he could then continue to receive 2/6d per day as a reduced Lieutenant when the regiment was again disembodied. Even the three years' commuted allowance of £135 would be a very small trifle for future existence. 26th January, 1846
