TitleLetter to Sir Robert Bernard, from his agent, John Horne
DescriptionHe was relieved to hear that £2200 is due from the timber sale at Staffordshire but Mr Smith has now told him there is no money to be had - just some letters of excuse from Picking and the news that Mr Hutchinson, the purchaser, is dead. It seems that this money should have been paid a year ago. "Now, Sir Robert, I hardly know how to write to you with temper, for such neglect as this would vex a stone. This is very nearly the very sum which you borrowed last with such difficulty from Gosling." He is now trying to trace Hutchinson's executors for the payment. Followed by a discussion of meetings with Mr Wilmot and Mr Clagget about the lease of Hyde Park Corner. He hopes the house on Hamilton Street will be taken by Thomas Oliver. Mr Tooke is executor for Mr Lens and he has some papers about Sir Robert's Essex affairs. He is glad to hear Sir Robert is enjoying the bathing and is grateful for Sir Robert's expressions of trust in him in spite of his inexperience. [Addressed to Sir Robert at Bath].
