Description | First page has been removed but from thereon the pages contain brief notes and signed receipts. Some pages record estate income and disbursements (e.g. "A brief of my lease of Shouldham Abbey...") but there are also references to personal and businesss payments (e.g. "Layed out for my sister Morgan which I gave Mrs Gough[?] to give for the midwife & nurse", "Recieved for tobacco..."). There are also occasional references to current events, for example: "1623 Octob. 26. The French Ambassador's house fell, killed 90..."
It seems likely that the accounts were kept either by Nathaniel Rich or Richard Rich, 2nd Earl of Warwick. |
