TitleThe Keeper of the House of Correction brings John Hammond to court. Hammond was committed on 29th October 1774 on the oath of Samuel Milton, an overseer of the poor of Bassingbourn Parish, by Hale Wortham, JP, for leaving his wife and child who were thereby chargeable to Bassingbourn parish. The court, satisfied with Milton's oath and since Hammond gave no reasonable defence, ordered Hammond to be held untilnext Monday, then taken to Bassingbourn and whipped.
