TitleTranscript of Landwade parish registers
DescriptionContaining: baptisms 23 October 1700 - 5 October 1806; marriages 12 March 1726 - 18 October 1802, 24 January 1889, 31 August 1890; burials 1 March 1700 - 13 March 1812. The transcript is entitled 'A true copy of the Parish Register of Landwade. Transcribed from the papers found in the hands of the clerk, 1790 by me H.A. Turner [Rev. Henry Turner, Vicar of Burwell, 1772-1808]'. It is in fact a copy made circa 1890 of Turner's transcript of 1790, which covered baptisms, marriages and burials 1700-1783, with what appears to have been a continuation to 1812 by Rev Turner and someone else after him. The clerk's papers which were Turner's source possibly included drafts from which entries were made in the Exning register in the period 1726-1736 (TR 770/1). The latter are often less detailed and for the period 1700-1724 none of the entries in Turner's transcript are in the Exning registers. The entries after 1783, which exclude marriages, are disordered in the circa 1890 transcript, but it is unclear whether this reflects the work of Rev Turner and his successors or their later transcriber. The relationship of the source of the last section of the transcipt, covering marriages 1757-1802 is even more uncertain, but the facts that they have an arrangement distinct from the preceding parts and that one, at least, of the marriages 1889 and 1890 appended to this was apparently celebrated in Exning church (cf TR 350/Q4) suggests that these are perhaps entries relating to Landwade extracted from the Exning registers. This may even be so of the earlier section for 1784-1812, despite Rev Turner's apparent involvement in the parish at this time, and comparison with these registers now in the Suffolk Record Office may clarify some of these points.
