TitlePrudential Insurance Agents' Group
DescriptionLarge group of Prudential Insurance Agents gathered in the court yard of the George Hotel, Huntingdon for the Huntingdon District Agents' Festival on the 20th April 1894. Some members of the group were identified on the back of the print of this glass plate (Accession 2561) by a Mrs Payne (nee Miss Hall, in the second row of the group) in 1977. Those identified are: front row, seated from left to right - seventh Mr Fisher, eighth Mrs Fisher with their three children [the Fishers were the proprietors of the George Hotel], end of row Mr Russell, draper of Huntingdon; second row from left to right - eighth [gentleman with long white beard] Mr Smith, possibly a superintendant of the Prudential and who had a draper's shop in Huntingdon, tenth Miss Hall [later Mrs Payne, aged 97 in 1977 and who supplied the information about the names] who was an organist at the Methodist Church in Huntingdon; third row gentleman on extreme right of the row - Mr Ashpole [an Emmanuel Ashpole, insurance agent, 32 West Street, is listed in the 1898 trade directory]; back row first gentleman on the extreme left Mr Childerhouse, the father of Mrs Payne
[ according to the trade directory of 1898 a James Childerhouse , boot maker, was at 71 Ermine Street, Huntingdon] . The placard at the back of the group reads "Prudential for Ever"
