TitleKimbolton Cricket Team
DescriptionKimbolton Cricket Team with the Smith Barry Cup. The team won the cup in 1900 after Huntingdon had monopolised the competition since its inauguration in 1890. This glass plate has the number 304 scratched on it, but this refers to a Hinchingbrooke group dating from the 1860s or 1870s in the Maddison & Hinde order book. Looking through the Kimbolton entries in this book, Frederick Hinde did take a photograph of "Kimbolton Cup Cricket Group" in 1910, but it cannot be this photograph as according to the Kimbolton cricket club website, the Kimbolton team first won the cup in 1900, and then not again until 1920.
The Hunts Post of the14 July 1900 reported that Huntingdon and Kimbolton had played in the semi-final of the Cup at the Huntingdon ground, and it was "a decisive win for Kimbolton, who will now have to encounter Ramsey in the final". The following week (21st July) the paper reported that "Kimbolton won comfortably, thanks to another fine innings by Gore". The team were named as - F Lenton, G Campion, GP Gore, EL Welstead, FL Maurice, B Church, GW Fairey, R Ross, H Callard and A Mehew
