TitleLaleham House, Fenstanton
DescriptionClose up view of the recently identified Laleham House, Fenstanton. The house is situated just off London Road, St Ives, and today is surrounded by trees and houses. "Phillips family house" is scratched on the glass plate - this family is unidentified, but it is known that the house was owned and occupied by a Frederick and Sophia Danner by 1909. The Archives has a collection of deeds relating to this property (Accession 4428) which show that the house had been built by 1899, and that a corn mill had stood on this site since the late 18th century.
Frederick Danner had been born in Northampton, but he and his wife had lived in Cincinnati, Ohio since 1869 and had become citizens of the United Stated. He eventually became the Vice President of the firm of J.A. Fay & Egan which manufactured patent wood cutting machinery. Frederick and his wife returned to this country in 1899, and the couple came to live in Laleham House. Frederick died in 1922.
