| Description | The laying of the foundation stone at the Methodist Church, Huntingdon. This ceremony took place on the 22 May 1878. The Mayor of Huntingdon, Bateman Brown, and the Mayor of Godmanchester, James Freshfield, set in place the foundation stones of the church which was designed by the local architect Robert Hutchinson. This new church had seating for 600 people, and replaced the one erected in the early 19th century (which in turn had replaced the chapel built in 1779 and in which John Wesley had preached). |
