Description | The old list to the Whitney collection catalogued this as "possibly marriage of Charlotte Burnaby to Major FG Beville, Indian Staff Corps". However, it is now thought that it is of the marriage of John Rolleston Prickett of Bridlington, Lieutenant in the Royal Navy and Caroline Maria Burnaby, daughter of Thomas Fowke Andrew Burnaby. This marriage took place in Brampton on 20 January 1880 and in this view the wedding guests are assembled outside Brampton Manor, the home of the Burnaby family. This image was used as an illustration in "Genealogy for Beginners" published by Phillimore in 1996. The Burnabys were a major family in Brampton and Caroline was married by her uncle, the Reverend Frederick Burnaby, Vicar of Brampton, who died just ten days after the ceremony. Lieutenant John Rolleston Prickett was 31 at the time of his marriage, and from Bridlington in Yorkshire. |
