TitleHuntingdon High Street
DescriptionThis view of the High Street is taken from the vicinity of the shop of Edward Dear, grocer, at 114 High Street. His shop can be seen on the left. On the right the drapery shop of Thomas Coxon at 53 High Street can be seen and then the rounded shop front at the beginning of All Saints Passage. At this time the shop, at 52 High Street, was probably occupied by Elphick's the house furnishers, who moved to George Street in 1910. However, an advert for T.G. Grunwell, ironmonger and implement agent can be seen painted on the top half of this building. No entry for this business can be found in the trade directories of the late 19th/early 20th century. However, there are sale particulars dated 1896 for a cottage occupied by a Mr Grunwell in the Archives - " Number 51 High Street, Huntingdon, also small cottage adjoining. House tenanted by Mr Pascoe, cottage, by Mr T.G.Grunwell.". See ED/4169/1/4/page317
There is extensive emulsion damage to this plate, although most of the image of the High Street is unaffected
