ActivityAs the daughter and wife to men who were both Baronets and Admirals, much of Philadelphia's early life was characterised by the twin experiences of prosperity and the absence of close family members. She appears to have been more than competent as an administrator, taking a personal hand in the management of her London property. Philadelphia was a keen diarist, and her journals of over forty years survive, along with a great deal of her correspondence.
