ActivityMaria Antoinetta Gordon, Marchioness of Huntly (c.1821-1893) was married at a young age to the 10th Marquess of Huntly, already aged 52. They were married for 19 years and in this time the Marchioness gave birth to 14 children, including one after her husband had died. During her married life she appears to have been given leeway to indulge a passion for shaping the family's Orton estate, both through landscaping the grounds and having the west wing of the building remodelled. Her passion for botany extended beyond just the Orton estates and she collected samples of plants from throughout Britain. She outlived her husband by three decades, and in her time as a widow she spent some time managing part of the Gordon estates, while also outliving five of her children.
