Many of the photographs had been mounted on card by Frank Jordan and his volunteers. The photographs were removed from their cardboard mounts for better archival preservation. In most cases the sticky tape used to hold them in place had perished and where glue had been used, the photographs were removed by the conservator's assistant. Hand written descriptions of the photographs on the cardboard by Frank Jordan and his volunteers were copied in pencil onto the back of the pictures. A sample of the mounts has been retained.
