TitleCorrespondence and papers relating to First Class Boy Sailor A.J. Flack
DescriptionCorrespondence and papers relating to First Class Boy Sailor Arthur James (Jim) Flack, of Earith. He joined the Royal Navy in January 1939 and trained at H.M.S. Ganges, Ipswich, Suffolk. On the 26th April 1940 he was injured in action while serving on H.M.S. Curacao off the coast of Norway. The ship was bombed and many on board were critically injured. Jim Flack died of his injuries 24 hours later, while being transferred to hospital.. He was aged just 16, and was buried in St Olaf's Cemetery, Kirkwall, Orkney beside one of his friends, J. Woodcock, who had also died..
This collection consists of letters sent by Jim Flack while on active service, his service record, official letters and telegrams informing his family of his injuries and decease, correspondence relating to his seaman's will, letters of condolence from family and friends, photographs and newspaper cuttings.
