| Description | Three bundles of correspondence, invitations, recipes etc. relating to the Lowe and Rooe families of Stamford, Lincolnshire. These papers were found in the attic of 30 High Street, Huntingdon, and may have belonged to a member of the Lowe family when the firm Lowe, Son & Cobbold, wine merchants, had their premises here from c1890-1940s. Most of the letters are addressed to a Mr Charles Lowe of Stamford, and relate to the death of his son, Ensign William Lowe of the 73rd Regiment of Foot, who died in 1815 in Belgium, "killed by a cannon ball, whilst asleep from extreme fatigue". The 2nd Batttalion of the 73rd Regiment of Foot fought at Waterloo and an Ensign William Lawson Lowe was among the casualties [see www.glosters.tripod.com].
