TitleBorough court/court of pleas
DescriptionThe charter of 1630 speaks as if the court of pleas was established by Edward III's charter of 1363 and the fact that the earliest record is of the following year tends to support this as the oldest institution of town government, but the fact that it is called simply 'Curia Huntyngdon' and records admissions suggests it is older than the leet. There are other indications of seniority, such as the election of representatives to Parliament that took place in this forum, and the relegation to the back of leet in the court book of 1633-36.
