TitleCourt Leet
DescriptionReferred to in Quo Warranto enquiries, and may be implicit in Hundred Rolls (need to check). By the 18th century at least it was the normal place for the admission of free burgesses. The business of the leet was similar to that elsewhere - the assize of bread and ale, presentment and correction of infringements of blocked drains and other nuisances, regulation of the commons. The principal officer of the court was the foreman of the jury. It is to him that the requests for admission are addressed.
