TitleConstables presentments and returns ('All well').
DescriptionIn this year for the first time occur constables returns on printed forms. The questions concern:-
(1) False weights
(2) Newbridges
(3) Stocks
(4) Drunkenness and immorality in ale houses.
(5) Apprehension of gypsies
(6) Other prints.
From 1827 Leightonstone returns we learn that at Great Gidding (4) they allow tippling in their Houses and at all Hours: At Kimbolton (1) the publicans draw short measure, the gardiners sells by skips instead of a Bushell. (3) A place of confinement as a substitute for the stocks. (4) Two of the Iarish Officers attended every Sunday on the Public Houses and have found them quite orderly and no tippling during the time of Divine Service. (5) Apprehended two, one for disorderly conduct and an assault upon the constable, the other as a vagrant begging about the Farish and were disposed of by the Magistrates.
At Brampton (2) a bridge built at the expense of Lady O.B. Sparrow (3) in good repair.
At Easton (2) a bridge built by Mr. Goods, change of the Proprietors (3) Good repair.
At Buckworth (2) By John Thompson at the Parish charge (4) (Ale houses) who have none.
At Alconbury (3) Repaired by the Parish Alconbury Weston (3) in good repair.
At Bythorn (1) One does draw full measure and the other does not. (3) In good repair.
At Covington (3) We have no stocks. (4) We have no ale-house in the Parish.
Precepts. At Old Weston, Spaldwick, Upon, Graffham, Leighton, Thurpins, Gt. Catworth the stocks were in good repair; in Swineshead they were not. Other parishes had none. At Keystone the public house always orderly.
