TitleLetter to Lord Frederick Montagu [Australia], from his brother, Viscount Mandeville
DescriptionHe was disappointed at Fred's recent letters, which indicated a wish for a change of occupation so soon. He looked foolish when Fred ruined his health and returned home without joining the regiment. No one will employ him unless he can stay long enough to be useful. It's not a good idea for Fred to go to Europe - too many temptations. Father has increased Fred's allowance. It is difficult to write because Fred has moved from New Zealand to Sydney and now to the 'diggings'. Olivia and their grandmother, Lady Olivia Bernard Sparrow, are annoyed that any children by their father's second marriage to Duchess Dobbs will inherit Tandragee. Mandeville does not support them and this has annoyed them both.
