TitleTwo letters to Millicent, Lady Mandeville, from her husband, Lord Mandeville, and Mr. Porter, Tandragee [Co. Armagh]
DescriptionAddressed to Millicent in Nice [France]. Part of letter from Lord Mandeville:
Leaves Tandragee next Monday for Brampton then wait to hear from La Croix, but from the sounds of Lady Mandeville's letter, he's put off coming. Needs to get away from Tandragee, he's become too immersed. A rail road is to go from Belfast to Armagh, through the Portadown property then Townlands. Weather not so good, snowing and blowing gales. Poor A Calthorpe (?) has died, worried about the effect on his sister. Servant Jane Hurst (?) has gone to parents but would be pleased to come back if Lord and Lady Mandeville were to return. Mrs Robinson is in the family way, Mrs Dugden not yet. Distressed for money, old Dean lent him £2000. Proposes starting from England immediately and in 3 weeks time "the lord will grant them to meet". Hopes she will encourage Bob [Robert] in writing hymms. Moved booked in the library again, bookworm has ravaged them.

Part of letter from H.Porter:
Reverend Edward Bickershall coming to a meeting of the Church Missionary Society and will deliver an address to the Clergy, saw 150 Clergymen at breakfast and Mr Cleavers. Mentions Mr Carter and and Miss Tipping's impending marriage. Had a letter from Mr Moore making enquires after them, he is not permitted for many months. All going smoothly at Castlewella. Captain Binny getting on favourably. Eldest of Lord A's boys ill with fever. Charity sermon at the hospital to be preached by Mr.Nolan, late curate of Boyton, now settled at Bayols (?) Church Newry. Ends with political matters about the Guardian paper favouring other Conservator, old Dr.Strand unequal but important not to lose an advocate.
