Title | Copy letter from Henry Jordan, 17 Gracechurch St., London to the Mayor of Manchester |
Description | Concerning money raised in Queensland for the relief of distressed cotton operatives in Great Britain. The money is to be divided between Lancashire and Scotland, part going to relieve present distress and part going towards the provision of outfits for persons wishing to emigrate to Queensland : free passage will be given to those who have been provided thus with an outfit: suggests that the Manchester Provident Society could add to the Queensland charity money and so increase the numbers emigrating and perhaps aid them on their arrival in Australia: suggests that the most suitable persons for emigration are the intelligent sort now employed as Overlookers and those who were once employed as farm labourers. |
