DescriptionDiscussion of the seizing of the Trent, the possibility of war and the legality of American actions. He does not agree that Wilkes was the only judge of whether Mason and Slidell were contraband of war. Regarding the duties of a Member of Parliament, he sees much difficulty in advocating views that you do not hold. The Huntingdonshire Conservatives always hope to secure a candidate who will fill the vacancy for some time and will not disturb the county but he has heard dissatisfaction expressed at the line Robert has taken on some subjects.
