TitleLetter from John T. Delane, to the Duke of Manchester
DescriptionHe published the letter as it stood, in spite of his high opinion of Hozier. He has faith in a system of long furloughs, or better enlistments for a short service, in the regular army. He thinks it is a great mistake to re-enlist the 10 year men. The Duke's arrival at Chatsworth must have caused a sensation if "as you say, you were shown into a room containing ... 12 to 24 ladies of whom you only knew about three without clothes."
