TitleLetter from John Gritton, Lord's Day Observance Society, to the Duke of Manchester
DescriptionHe has seen a report of the Diocesan Conference at Huntingdon in which the Duke apparently expressed the view that artisans should be allowed 'wholesome recreation' on Sundays between the hours of Divine Service. This is a very indefinite expression and he cannot believe that the Duke would suggest he is in agreement with the Book of Sports or the Anti-Lord's Day party but the words could be 'abused for further evil'. He asks on behalf of the Committee for an explanation.
