DescriptionThe work of the Shakespeare committee has promised so much success but has been regarded unfavourably with the public and has so far failed to raise the sums needed for a national memorial. He does not think the Queen would wish to associate her name with this body so he advises the application for her patronage should be withdrawn as it would be hurtful to them, and disagreeable to the Queen, that the request be declined. Regarding a site for the monument, he has spoken to Mr Cowper. No site can yet be given for a monument that may never be erected.
