TitleLetter from William Burness, London, to the Duke of Manchester
DescriptionHas found an advertisement in The Times for a Clerk wanted for Goverment work in Portland, Ireland. Burness intends to apply. Asks the Duke for a certificate as the advertisement requests that the applicant must have experience of managing large numbers of men. Certificate he already has from the Duke only refers to farming whereas much of his labours at Tandragee included engineering. Has previously managed 300-400 men in quarrying and building bridges, considers that he posseses "great authority among servants". Would take it kindly if the Duke could give what assistance he can.
Adds that he is glad that Lord Mandeville has safely returned from the continent.
