Description	Fred has been gazetted but please ask for 12 months leave to finish his education. Mr Hawtrey's letter says that Colonel Ward is teaching him fortifications and devotes one hour daily to religious conversation so it is most important that he stays. "Dear Bessie" [?] is very ill and asked her to pray with her. Dr Traill is gone, to fever, and it is a great loss to the country.
