Reciting the will of William Duke of Manchester (1737) and his directions for the investment of the £25,000 marriage portion of Duchess Isabella, if they should fail to produce an heir. At the time of the Duke's death in 1739 this money was invested as mortgages for properties in Norfolk, York and Northumberland, all which have been assigned to (i) as trustees, by the Duke's executors Francis Earl Godolphin and Scroop Duke of Bridgwater.
(ii) to lend £5,000 to (i) for the payment of the late Duke's funeral expenses and debts, against the following security.
Property: various messuages, farms etc, now or lately occupied by Charles Lake, Daniel Thorpe, Thomas Bruce, Thomas Godsman, John Strattin, Widow Cullen, John Wiseman, William Wilkinson, John Perry, William Shawl, Robert Howard, Francis Nurse and Patrick Heron. Includes Hayhoes Farm. All which properties are in the parishes of Stow Bardolph, Wallington, Wimbotsham, Carrow, Downham, Bexwell in Norfolk
