DescriptionA view of the bridge and The Quay in St Ives. "Stratton's Dye Works" can be seen written on a building on the right of the photograph. The 1869 trade directory lists a Joseph Smith Stratton, dyer, scourer and calenderer; damask & moreen furniture dyed in ingrain colours;dresses, shawls, table covers, carpets, counterpanes, muslin curtains etc. cleaned, Riverside. By 1877 the business had moved to Bridge Street, as the directory of that year lists Joseph Smith Stratton & Son, dyers, scourers, calenderers, rep & damask furniture etc. dyed in grain colours and watered; shawls, carpets and blankets cleaned at Bridge Street. The 1890 directory entry is shorter, just Stratton & Son, steam dye works, Bridge Street.
