DescriptionWilliam Gadsby,J.P, was Mayor of Godmanchester in 1895, 1898 and 1899, and this image is believed to date from 1899. "Northants and Huntingdonshire Contemporary Biographies" ed by W.T.Pike, 1912, records that he was born in 1847, son of the late Alderman Topham Gadsby of Riverside, Godmanchester. He was a farmer and landowner, as well as a Justice of the Peace and a member of Godmanchester Town Council and Huntingdonshire County Council. By 1912 he had, in fact, been four times Mayor of Godmanchester. He married Ellen, daughter of Thomas Cope of Buckden in 1872, and they had two sons, John Topham Gadsby of Riverside and Charles Henry Gadsby of Corpus Christi
