TitleMessrs. Sansom, Brudenell and Collins entry, Cycle Parade, Huntingdon
DescriptionThe Hunts Post of the 9 June 1900 recorded that the annual Huntingdonshire Amateur Athletics Sports Day had been held on Whit Monday in Hinchingbrooke Park. The paper also recorded that in the morning "a successful cycle carnival" had been held on Mill common. "Once again the devotees of the wheel in the neighbourhood were granted the opportunity of casting aside for one day at least their sober, matter-of-fact notions of nineteenth-century respectability and conventionality..."
The event was held on Mill Common, and here we can see the entry of Messrs. Sansom, Brudenell and Collins. The man in the middle was "Kruger in Chains", while an English and a Scottish soldier stood either side of the ex-President. The trio were awarded second prize. The square chimney in the background may be that of the Bacon and Dairy Factory which stood alongside the river bridge. The conifer tree which can be seen to the right of the chimney is similar to one in the garden of Castle Hill House (see WH3/1660).
