TitleThe Godmanchester Proclamation of King George V
DescriptionThe proclamation of a new king or queen's reign by the Borough of Godmanchester traditionally took place on the middle of the river bridge between Huntingdon and Godmanchester. On the 11th May 1910 the Godmanchester Mayor, Aubrey Markham, rode fully robed to the Court Hall in Godmanchester and then to the middle of the bridge to proclaim King George V. He can just be seen in the middle of the crowd on the bridge. The photograph is taken from Godmanchester side of the river, and provides a good view of the buildings on the Huntingdon side, including Bosworth House and the bacon factory along the riverside
