TitleMr G Miller's Daimler car in the George Hotel Courtyard, Huntingdon.
DescriptionThe Miller family are unidentified, presumably they were guests at the Hotel, but the lady standing beside the car is Mrs Mary Jane Fisher, proprietor of the George Hotel. She was born in Mary Jane Allen 1845, and married Edward Henry Fisher of Godmanchester. Soon after their marriage the couple took over the licence of the Unicorn Hotel in St Ives. They then transferred to the Fountain Hotel in Huntingdon. Mr Fisher died in 1891, but Mrs Fisher ran the Fountain for 21 years, before transferring to the George Hotel c1910. She retired in 1918 and died in 1929, aged 84.
The Hunts Post of the 23rd March 1925 carries a photograph of Mrs Fisher with her great granchild and reported that she was for many years "the popular proprietress of the George Hotel, Huntingdon, where she earned the reputation of being the best businesswoman in the county."
