DescriptionThis is the marriage of Herbert Clarence Dains, aged 29, bachelor, Lieutenant R.N., of H.M Submarine K6, son of Henry Herbert Dains, Fellow S...t[?], Chemistry, and Beatrice Rose Johnson, aged 23, spinster, of Westwood House, St Ives, daughter of John Johnson, J.P. for Huntingdonshire. Lieutenant Dains entered the Royal Navy in 1914, and by 1924 he was 1st Lieutenant of Submarine K6 of the Atlantic Fleet, having previously been a torpedo officer on submarine K12 since 1921. He was a commanding officer of a number of submarines throughout his career, retiring in 1932.
The Hunts Post of the 20th August 1925 carried an extensive report on this marriage entitled "Naval Officer married to St Ives ex-Mayor's daughter." The bridesmaids are named as Misses Lorna and Edith Johnson, Miss Jean Greig and Misses Joan and Peggy Williams. The best man was Lieutenant K.J.T. Southgate, R.N.
