SurnameVesey
ForenamesFrancis Gerald
TitleArchdeacon of Huntingdon (1874-1915)
ActivityFrancis Gerald Vesey (1832-1915) was a senior churchman in the Diocese of Ely for over forty years, predominantly during his occupation of the office of Archdeacon of Huntingdon from 1874-1915. He had worked as a Rector in Huntingdon before that, the town where his family had been based for a long time and were held in high regard. His obituary in the Times noted that one of his principal interests was church music, that he had contributed to its improvement in the county and had served as the Vice-President of the Huntingdon Choral Society. Outside of his career in the church, he was clearly a learned man, earning three degrees including a Doctorate in Law. He also published two books during the 1870s, demonstrating some of his intellectual pursuits. His obituary also indicated that he was closely involved in other local affairs around Huntingdonshire, though it does not specify any particular causes he supported.
