TitleRegister of oaths
DescriptionThis volume was used for subscribing oaths of allegiance, in the form of declaring to 'conform to the liturgy of the Church of England'. The declarations are mostly of surgeons, midwives, curates and schoolmasters admitted to offices in the area of the archdeaconry. Other oaths subscribed to include the oath of fidelity to King George I, the Oath of Supremacy, the Test Declaration and the Oath of Abjuration. Included amongst the oaths those of surgeons are of particular rarity and the index to persons of this status is included here. All entries have been described in order of the date of subscription, since this is the order in which they appear in the volume. It should be noted that these entries do not appear consecutively but are interspersed with persons of other professions.
