TitleCertification to Bishop John Salmon of Norwich by the official of the archdeacon of Sudbury
DescriptionThe official replies to the bishop's inquiry mandate (dated 18 Nov. 1311 and copied in full as part of this text), which asked him to conduct a customary investigation into the circumstances of the vacancy of the vicarage of Chippenham and the suitability of the candidate (Henry de Haverell) presented by the patron, Walden Abbey. The official states that he has held a ruri-decanal chapter at Cheveley on 22 November, at which time it was found (among other things) that the vicarage was truly vacant, that Walden Abbey was the true patron, and that Henry was a suitable person.
