DescriptionRingbound A5 volume containing all County Council extensions. All extensions were 4-digit numbers. Cambridge-based extensions began with 7 or 8 (for example the County Archivist was extension 8131) and Huntingdon-based extensions began with 5 (for example the Record Office in Huntingdon was extension 5842). When telephoning from outside the system a caller could dial an extension directly, as long as they knew where it was based. Cambridge-based numbers were 01223 31 plus the extension; Huntingdon-based numbers were 01480 42 plus the extension; and Peterborough-based numbers were 01733 88 plus the extension. For example, when making a telephone call to the County Archivist an external caller could dial 01223 318131, but if they wanted to telephone Huntingdon Record Office then they would have to dial 01480 425842; dialling 01223 315842 would not work.
