DescriptionIn addition to routine matters, meetings considered establishing and teaching classes in private schools (e.g. Trinity and St John’s Choir Schools, Ely Grammar School, the Choir School at Huntingdon) and Council-run schools (e.g. Barnwell Boys’, St Paul’s Boys’ and King St Boys’ schools.) Branches of the School of Art were also established in other centres, e.g. Ely, Huntingdon and Royston and progress in these centres was monitored and discussed. A major topic discussed in 1864 was the Commission of Inquiry to ascertain the condition of Schools of Art. The inquiry investigated the administration of funds for the promotion of Art Education, and the need to promote examples of how the Schools of Art have been useful to artisans and manufacturers in the country. The news of the foundation of a University Chair of Art in 1863 was discussed in relation to its effect on the School of Art.
