| Description | "The minute books include minutes of General Committee Meetings, until 1887, and Managing Committee Meetings, until 1905. Inserted roughly chronologically there are also printed pamphlets in connection with the School of Art, lists of subscribers, newspaper cuttings describing meetings, excursions and lists of prizes awarded, copies of the Annual Reports, correspondence with Assistant Secretaries of the Department of Science and Art, South Kensington and miscellaneous correspondence. The General Committee was formed on 16 August 1858 to appoint staff, to establish courses, to find accommodation for the school, to set fees and to regulate and oversee the progress of pupils. This committee met frequently but irregularly during the first years of the college and less frequently thereafter. The Managing Committee was formed in October 1858, it met irregularly but frequently during teaching terms and less often during the summer. In the early days, this committee reported to the General Committee and made recommendations to it in the form of resolutions to be passed. These recommendations included the appointment of staff, whom they interviewed, their salaries, the purchase of equipment, organisation of accommodation, arrangements for an annual soiree, lectures and, in early years, an annual excursion.
