Description1. Mary Ekin of the borough of Cambridge, widow; Augustus Goodman Ekin of same, brewer; Frederick James Howson of Huntingdon, merchant (vendors). 2. Philip Llewelyn Hudson of borough of Cambridge, college cook (purchaser). Freehold, copyhold and leasehold property listed: 36 freehold and copyhold, 15 leasehold, for £35,000. 2. will take all horses, wagons, casks, stock of malt, barley wines and spirits at Cambridge Hops in Cambridge and London (but NOT wines and spirits stored elsewhere than at brewery or are in bond) for £3,995. Option to take over trade debts and rents of premises £2,678 and option of taking over securities for monies owing by Beale, Course and Covill for £827. Pay deposit now: £4,375. On taking possession of brewery £8,750 or pay £5,625 and sum of £25,000 shall remain on mortgage and policy of £4,000 with bonus additions on life of purchaser in Mutual Life Assurance Company at interest of 4½% pa BUT if pays £8,750 then £21,875 shall remain on mortgage at interest of 4½%. On completion of purchases Augustus Goodman Ekin shall enter into bond with purchaser not to carry on business of brewer, maltster, or wine and spirit merchant either at Cambridge or within distance of 50 miles BUT shall not prevent him from carrying on Hoop Hotel, Cambridge, nor from supplying tenants or manager with intoxicating liquors from firms other than purchasers. Contents of private office to be kept by Augustus Goodman Ekin, who has right to use rent free for 12 months after purchase.
