| Description | The Waverley Ball was held on the 6th July 1871 in London. This Club had been founded in 1765 as Almack's Assembly Rooms, and was re-nmaed Willis's Rooms in 1871. The building was completely destroyed in 1944, and the site is now occupied by an office, Almack House. The Waverley Ball was held to raise funds for the completion of the Scott Monument in Princes Street, Edinburgh. The foundation stone of the monument had been laid in 1840, yet the whole monument was not completed until 1879. This album contains photographs |
