TitleCambridge Organisation for Lesbian and Gay Action
DescriptionThe National Organisation for Lesbian and Gay Action (OLGA) was established in 1987 in part to oppose Section 28 of the Local Authority Act that prohibited the promotion of homosexuality by local authorities. The group's aims were very similar to those of CHE. OLGA sought to a) fight discrimination at all levels on the grounds of lesbian and gay sexuality, culture, gender, age, disability and class, b) fight for an end to all forms of discrimination experienced by lesbians and gays, and for the liberation of lesbian and gay sexuality, c) to develop a Charter for Lesbian and Gay Rights in furtherance of the above, and to campaign actively to get this charter adopted as soon as possible, d) provide whatever support is possible for individuals facing discrimination, and e) fight and campaign against any developments detrimental to lesbian and gay rights. A Cambridge branch was formed in 1988 but this wound up in 1990 following the breakup of the national organisation.
