DescriptionSir Hiram Maxim (1840-1916) was engineer to the United States Electric Company. He was naturalized in Britain in 1900, and knighted in 1901. His chief inventions were a rapid firing gun, a steam driven flying machine and maximite, a smokeless powder and predecessor of cordite.
